My career
My passion and expertise are people.
In a career of over five decades to date, I worked in six major organisations. These have taken me to six countries on three continents. I began corporate life with English China Clays in Cornwall, and Johnson Matthey Chemicals in Royston, England. I worked for Aluminium Bahrain (ALBA) in Bahrain. In Hong Kong, I was with the (then Royal) Hong Kong Jockey Club for five years. I concluded my corporate career with nine years at HSBC in Hong Kong. For the last 28 years, I have been a Hong Kong-based consultant and advisor to public and private sector organisations, during which time I spent six months in Manila, Philippines advising a client full-time. I now live in London.
I undertook the world’s first post-graduate programme in human resource management in the UK. I have built on this knowledge and expertise throughout my life. People are at the core of business in every part of the world. However, the ways in which people work together and understand each other vary widely. One style of management very definitely does not fit all. I have a passion for and expertise in cross-cultural training and communications.
I am a coach, trainer, mediator, and HR consultant. I write a weekly blog on many topics and specialise in Hong Kong and China. I will shortly publish a book about my life and how my upbringing has influenced my views. I have interests in many fields, including wine, sailing, antique clocks, photography, electric vehicles, and books.
